Christopher Pincher MP, the next in line to take on the role of housing minister.
Grand Designs Live continues to cover the latest news in the world of self-building and home improvement, with Kit Malthouse MP attending the London event in 2019 to update visitors on the UK’s housing situation and how we can create better and more beautiful homes. Speaking to Kevin McCloud, he commented that he had been given a yearly target of “building 300,000 new homes by the mid 2020’s”, which was is an ambitious target, with only 213,860 new-build homes achieved in 2018-2019, an increase of 18,570 from 2017-18.
Since, the cabinet has had a couple of reshuffles, with the latest Housing Minister Ester McVey MP, losing her role after just 205 days, compared to her predecessor Mr Malthouse MP, having the duty for 481. Soon after the news broke on 13 February the ex-housing minister commented “I’m very sorry to be relieved of my duties as Housing Minister. I wish my successor the very best and every success”.
The latest appointed to take on the role as housing minister is Mr Christopher Pincher MP, who will follow on to aim to achieve the Government’s new homes target.
Those wishing to take on a home build project will be hoping that there will be a renewed commitment from local authorities under the Right to Build Legislation, which aims to satisfy the demands of custom-build plots. Figures from the National Custom & Self Build Association (NaCSBA) indicate that 13,000 self-build projects were completed within the 2018-19 financial year.
