Timothy Carless

Timothy Garden Design is an, independent practice known for creating gardens that blend elegance with practical design. Based in the East of England, Timothy works mainly with clients across East Anglia and the South East,  but also with clients further afield, designing thoughtful, site responsive gardens tailored to each individual brief.

As a child, gardening alongside his grandmother and growing vegetables on his childhood patch. Timothy's had his hands in the soil from a very young age.  This connection with the earth runs right through his life.  Today, interests lie in the creation of comfortable, harmonious, long life landscape settings, these can be seen in England, Scotland, Ireland and Italy.

With over 36 years of design experience,  from those early gardening interests Timothy enjoys working with clients in their estates, parks and gardens.  Working with many of these clients for more than ten years and together they manage and watch the landscapes come to fruition.

Timothy brings together strong horticultural expertise, a sound understanding of construction, and a clear design sensibility. His gardens are shaped by proportion, structure, and a refined planting style that offers interest throughout the seasons. Planting is carefully selected and placed to create depth, balance, and character always with the long-term development of the garden in mind. The sustainability of Timothy’s gardens is illustrated with many projects now passing through one two or three decades of maturity.
Timothy is a long-standing member of the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers, the UK’s professional body for garden and landscape design, reflecting his commitment to high standards of practice and ongoing professional development.

Collaboration is central to the whole process. For Timothy, every project begins by listening closely to the client's needs. Timothy brings the design expertise to work with his clients fulfilling the vision. Together, clients, architects, and Timothy review the concepts, ensuring the result is both functional and aesthetically pleasing to be a true reflection of its setting and it's occupants.
