Johnny Grey
Johnny Grey has had a lifelong interest in the pleasures of kitchen living, backed up cutting edge design thinking and research. He has spoken at over 65 conferences across the world on kitchen design. He came to attention with his concept of the Unfitted Kitchen – the kitchen space made with furniture hidden, but embedded ergonomics. He has created sociable, custom-made kitchens in fourteen countries and written four books, The Art of Kitchen Design, Kitchen Culture, The Hardworking House and Kitchen Workbook. They have been published in eight languages. He has currently been commissioned to write The Ultimate Kitchen Book by Thames and Hudson for publication in 2028.
The New York Times called him the World’s Best Kitchen Designer. From 1999 – 2007 he ran a studio in San Francisco. His custom studio works internationally. He is a director of the South Downs Food Festival, literary executor of the Elizabeth David estate and recently launched his own Unfitted Kitchen Company.
In his spare time Johnny is to be found cooking meals from many cultures, building a woodland garden, listening to multiple music genres, enjoying loose leaf tea and Rhone wines. His wife, four grown-up children and seven grandchildren also cook (well nearly), sometimes all at the same time, in the well-loved kitchen at their Sussex family home.
