Ocean Bucket
“Designers have a responsibility to create better and more meaningful solutions." Accordingly, Callum has made beach toys out of waste collected, graded and sorted from beaches across North Devon. “At a pilot Beach Clean 4 Beach Toys nearly 40 people collected 16kg of waste in over just one hour on 400m of beach - from underwear to a ceramic dog. Half was usable plastic (HDPE, LDPE, PP and PET). There was also 3kg of usable nylon rope and fishing nets.” He aims to hire out his robust octopus bucket-and-lid, squid-like rake and whale spade on beaches, to prevent more waste, and “close the loop.” Callum is currently working at eco-packaging specialists Notpla to develop “game-changing rigid materials that will replace all plastic as we know it today.”
