ROCWORX
Based in South Devon, Rachel O’Connell is a multi-media sustainable marbling artist, leatherworker and an educator, with over 30 years marbling experience.

Marbling on paper, wood and natural textiles, including leather, Rachel combines her heritage skills with a contemporary design aesthetic to create marbled artwork, textile wearable art, homewares, wallpaper and soft furnishings, stationery, and marbled leather goods.

Rachel launched her sustainable brand, ROCWORX®, in 2021 and has since shown and sold work nationally in Manchester Art Gallery, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Brantwood Museum, The British Museum and in MAKE Southwest and Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Devon. Her work can be found in select galleries and independent shops in Devon and London.

As a sustainable maker, Rachel repurposes marbled leather to create jewellery and accessories. She works with businesses to repurpose their textiles and paper resources, such as theatrical textiles and ballet slippers received from the Royal Ballet and Opera and tea bag paper and food packaging received from Taylor’s of Harrogate, with proceeds from sales going to the food bank charity, the Trussell Trust.

Rachel tutors marbling across the UK in schools, community groups, museums and galleries, offering a range of workshops including marbling, bookbinding, leatherwork and soft furnishings. Rachel is a tutor with West Dean Art College, Oxford Summer School and with the charity, The Creative Dimensions Trust. She tutors for MAKE Southwest Arts Council’s National Saturday Club, as well as demonstrating marbling with Heritage Crafts and at Craft Festival and Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair.

Rachel also runs workshops from her home studio in South Devon, teaching marbling, bookbinding, lampshade making and leatherwork.
