Converted Shipping Container

We are looking forward to welcoming Jasper Thompson and his shipping container home to the show:

Jasper Thompson, a restaurant owner from Bristol set up the non-profit enterprise called Help Bristol’s Homeless to try and change the situation of increasing homelessness within the city.

With the help of volunteers, he converted a shipping container into a temporary home for those sleeping rough. He secured a plot of land from someone who was currently awaiting planning permission, installed a caravan and got to work.

Jasper was able to receive local donations of furniture, fixtures and fittings along with tradesmen who were able to train the homeless and equip them with the skills needed to carry out the project.

The house comes complete with a bed, kitchen, en-suite and electricity, giving those in need, a luxurious temporary home. The total cost of the renovation was around £5,000 and those that are able to live in the container have earned their keep by working on the project themselves.

Jasper is now looking to continue his project on several sites around the city, but is looking for the help of Bristol Council to secure him a plot of land where he can base his project permanently.

This year at Grand Designs Live Birmingham we are excited to announce that Jasper will be bringing his converted shipping container to the show. Come and take a look around this temporary home and meet Jasper along with Help Bristol’s Homeless to get more information on this amazing project, which has the capability to really make a difference and get those in need, back on their feet.
