Riccardo Cenedella
Riccardo is a recent graduate from the MA Material Futures course at Central Saint Martins. “The UK produces around 400,000 tonnes of waste carpet a year,” he explains, “and only 10 per cent is recycled properly. The rest is sent to an incinerator to produce energy. Or it simply ends up in landfill.” Riccardo will show furniture he has made from carpet waste, using heat-guns, moulds and custom-made bolts to reshape and repurpose the synthetic thermo-plastic fibres that now dominate carpet production. Riccardo is also showing Alimenta, a material he has processed from food waste.
