Phoebe is a 2021 graduate of the University of Northumbria. After extensive research both on the ground and in the lab, she has refined a collection of inks derived from farmed seaweed. “My aim is to revive coastal communities and reduce environmental impact,” she says. Phoebe worked alongside North Shields Fish Quay, together with a lab in Newcastle, and with Dulux, to harvest, process and produce the paint experiments on show. The colours have been extracted from raw pigments found in seaweed as well as seaweed waste. Phoebe is continuing her research, expanding the colour range and investigating further how altering pH affects the colours produced.
