Ellie Perry
Ellie graduated from Kingston University last summer, where she developed ceramic vessels with glazes made from local industrial waste to replace virgin metals. She explains: “People think ceramics are all about natural materials – but mining raw materials for glazes is destroying the planet. And the world is running out of sand.” Ellie locally-sourced industrial waste, mainly glass and stone slurry which are by-products of the glass-and stone-cutting industries. She meticulously tested chemicals, reactions, and mixes – “finding a way to utilise waste and, yes, celebrate its beauty.” Ellie has won a clutch of Awards, including the Product Design Category at the Global Graduate Design Show; and a Design-Nation Graduate Sustainability Innovation Award. Her work has been on show at the Thrown Contemporary and Bevere Galleries.
