The self-commissioned house building market in the UK is changing fast, with more large scale, multi-home, sites coming onto the market than ever before. In this session, Kevin will explore what is driving this change and what the ‘custom build’ housing model means for consumers. The audience will hear from the influential MP, Richard Bacon who is the architect of the Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Act and the author of the influential Bacon Review report on scaling of the UK self-commissioned housing market about what the Government is doing to make this form of housing mainstream. Two of the country’s leading practitioners in the industry will talk about the scale of the changes on the ground and the kinds of exciting new custom build housing projects coming forward. They will also hear from the head of Homes England’s new self-commissioned unit what the Government’s housing and regeneration agency is doing to support the scaling of the market.
