River waste for plant pots
Four enthusiastic and dedicated graduates are hand making plant pots from Jesmonite (often called eco-concrete) combined with recycled glass collected from Sheffield’s rivers and waterways. The unique drip tray of these pots, which prevents root rot, is made from “river plastic” such as bottle caps and milk cartons. Indeed, each pot contains half a kilo of litter from local rivers. “FLOD – which is an ancient word for river - not only tackles pollution in our local waterways but can inspire others, we hope.” The four friends hatched their initial idea during lockdown, and their first batch of 20 pots made with a panini press and domestic blender (with a fish cake packet as a mould) sold out in 37 minutes.
