Foster Lomas is a London-based architecture and interior design studio led by William Foster and Greg Lomas. Since 2005, we’ve built a diverse body of work—ranging from meticulously designed private homes to a rewilding center on the Isle of Man—with project budgets spanning from £500,000 to £50 million. Our experience extends across a wide range of locations, from the United Kingdom and Italy to the Caribbean, Namibia, Russia, Sumatra, Dubai, and the United States. Over the years, our work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including regional and national RIBA accolades.
Our design philosophy revolves around three core principles: Context, Craft and Character.
Context
Our design process is grounded in research. We delve into the cultural, architectural, topographical, and social elements that define each site, allowing us to extend the narrative of the places where we work. Each project is a response to its surroundings, resulting in architecture that feels authentic and rooted.
Craft
At the heart of our practice is the act of making. To us, architecture is a tangible expression of culture and craftsmanship. We blend adventurous formal experimentation with a deep understanding of materials, techniques, and processes. This commitment to craft infuses our designs with a tactile quality, where every detail speaks to a passion for creating.
Character
Character is what gives our architecture its distinctive presence. We shape each building by combining the unique qualities of the site and landscape, the craft of construction, and the client's needs. This results in spaces that are not only functional but also carry a sense of individuality and appropriateness, creating a narrative that is both specific and memorable.
Every project starts with your story. Together, we will refine and define the brief, creating an architectural journey that aligns with your vision. We aim to craft environments that are tactile and atmospheric, where anticipation and delight are built into every space, allowing your passions to resonate throughout.
We have extensive experience working within sensitive and coastal environments. By studying local climate and construction techniques, we design robust, thoughtfully detailed homes that integrate seamlessly into their landscapes. Our approach to sustainability is bespoke, developing tailored strategies that maximize site resources and often incorporate the reuse and extension of historic structures. Our goal is to design homes that not only reflect but also elevate their surroundings, merging tradition and innovation to achieve a timeless elegance that feels at once contemporary and enduring.
