Passive Design
The clients were eager to maximise energy efficiency and minimise construction waste by utilising passive house details, high performing modern materials including aluminium, zinc, sustainably sourced timber cladding and a partly rendered finish. In its rural garden setting, the house opens onto a courtyard to the South and East, allowing natural light to flood in throughout the day.
This project utilised a Passive Timber Frame with Passive Slab Foundation and triple glazed windows to achieve a high level of efficiency. With any eco-house the technical design and details are critical to maximise performance to ensure an air tight building is achieved. A MVHR system was used to ensure the house was sufficiently ventilated and this also meant that heat could be recovered which would otherwise have been lost.
