Nigel Tyas is a skilled blacksmith / ironworker with more than 40 years’ experience. He set up his own business, Nigel Tyas Ironwork, with his wife and partner Elizabeth Stocker in 2000. The small employer, based in the south Pennines above Sheffield, is committed to keeping traditional metalworking skills alive.
Nigel Tyas designs and makes beautiful ironwork for the home – pendant lights, wall lights, lamps, chandeliers, curtain poles, fireside irons and other homewares
All our wrought iron products are handmade in our Yorkshire workshop. They are designed, as well as made, by Nigel Tyas, with his team of blacksmiths. We use traditional metalworking methods and tools which are largely unchanged for centuries.
Our metal is heated to a pliable white-hot state in the 1100 degree centigrade heat of our forge. It is then expertly worked, curved, curled, chamfered; fullered, tapered and rolled using anvils, hammers, jigs and other tools. Most of our products are offered in a natural black or light burnished steel finish. All our lighting is compatible with energy saving LED bulbs
We offer excellent customer service – to measure and customise our products, such as curtain poles, to suit requirements.
Nigel’s work can be found in all styles of homes, hotels, manor houses; cottages, castles, pubs; cathedrals, churches, log cabins, heritage properties and more.
Our customers include homeowners, architects, electrical engineers, interior designers, property developers and restoration specialists.
